Interest Representation

Freshfel is located in Brussels and represents the interests of the fruit and vegetables sector. In its day-to-day work, Freshfel Europe keeps regular contact with the services of the European Commission, mainly with DG AGRI, DG TRADE, DG SANCO, DG ENVIRONMENT, DG TAXUD, DG RESEARCH, DG ENTREPRISE, as well as the European Parliament. The Freshfel secretariat and members participate on a regular basis in EU Advisory Groups and EU expert Committees whose work touches upon the fruit and vegetables sector. Committees of DG AGRI include the Advisory Committee on Fruits and Vegetables, the Expert Working Groups on Citrus, Apples and Pears, Tomatoes, and Peaches and Nectarines; the Advisory Groups on Promotion, on Organic Farming and on the Quality of Agricultural Production. Freshfel is also represented in the work of DG SANCO in particular in the EU Platform for Action on Diet, Physical Activity and Health, as well the Advisory Group on the Food Chain and Animal and Plant Health. In regard to DG TRADE, Freshfel regularly attends the Civil Society Dialogue meetings on trade issues and the Market Access Advisory Committee. Freshfel is also linked to the EFSA Stakeholders Platform in Parma. In so far as the European Parliament is concerned, Freshfel regularly attends Committee meetings of the European Parliament (Committee on Agriculture, Committee on International Trade, and Committee on Environment, health and consumer protection). Freshfel is also an active member along with AREFLH of the European Parliament’s Intergroup on Fruits and Vegetables. Besides this, Freshfel is also accredited with the United Nations organisations such as FAO, WHO, UN/ECE and OECD.

 

Freshfel is also representing the voice of the sector at the European level with other organisations such as COPA-COGECA, CELCAA, CIAA, Eurocommerce, OEITFL, AIJN, Global GAP, PMA, United Fresh and also the newly created platform for Sustainable Production and Consumption.

 

Freshfel is also a recognised platform of exchange within the sector from producers down to retailers.
